Employment practices liability insurance covers employers for legal fees, damages, awards and settlements following allegations against them of unfair dismissal, sexual harassment, discrimination and/or failure to employ made by past or present employees and/or job applicants at the CCMA, Bargaining Council, Labour Court or arbitration proceedings.

In some cases the courts can award up to 24 months’ salary to an aggrieved employee. This could significantly impact on a company’s cashflow.

Some insurers will in addition to providing you with the above cover also provide you with telephonic access to labour law advice, professional opinions on handling labour disputes and representation at the CCMA, Bargaining Councils and Labour Courts.
